It has been great getting to know your children! We are in a really good place as a class. Here is some of what we have been up to:

We start and end our days with open ended discovery boxes. These are STEAM based and allow the children a gentle entry and end to their day. It offers a time for social interaction and builds community.










We have been learning about fables and fairy tales. They are a great way to refresh learning about characters and setting, and retelling stories. Here we acted out 3 Billy Goats Gruff.






Our next story was Jack and the Beanstalk.  After the teams made their stick puppets, (special thanks to Ms. Ashley Waltrip for lending a hand!) We reviewed to see if they had the important characters to tell the story. A person who sells the beans?..important. Cat?...maybe not so important. Different teams helped out if someone was missing a needed character.

We enjoyed apples and honey for Rosh Hashanah for a sweet New Year.
In Science, we learned why leaves change colors in the Fall.








In Math, we sorted dominoes to find the doubles facts.













We were the first class to have a real field trip in 2 years! We went to Curran Apple Orchard in U.P. Thank you chaperones for making this possible..and fun!

And for many...the best part...their first bus ride!

  Spring break is almost over. Strap in for the rapid roller coaster to the end of the year! But first, let's look back at the last few months. West Pierce Fire Department We had a fun visit from West Pierce Fire Department. We learned why it's important to use a car seat so that our seat belts sit properly on our bodies and won't injur us in an emergency. Nora helped demonstrate without and with a car seat. Then we measured to see who didn't need to still use a car seat. Oliver was the only one even close. He missed by about an inch. Hibernation One of our science studies was hibernation. We used video to watch bears fill up on foods before winter, and later we watched drowzy bears coming out of hibernation. Groundhogs hibernate too! In art we did a directed drawing of a sleeping bear with a cozy quilt. February February is the shortest month but it is packed with celebrations. 100th day of school is a big mile marker in primary.  Here it is....finally...winter break. I hope you will enjoy these memories: Halloween! It was fun to dress up.  We played some games in class. The Dance-a-thon was a lot of fun! Native American History Month Thank you to Mrs Sweetman, our ongoing Wednesday volunteer, as well as Will, James, and Joel's moms who pitched in on Shelters day! We could not have done it without you! Celebrating the Holidays We discussed and saw videos for many of the Winter holidays around the world, including, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and the Winter Solstice. In Science, we studied Conifer trees and learned how to tell the difference between the many evergreens in our area. Here is some of our artwork: We observed the 'intelligience' of a pine cone by observing it before and after being exposed to water. The cones close up to protect the seed!
